Hello Kealing Orchestra Families! After seeing all the orchestra classes in first two days, Mr. Jarrott and I just want to let you know how excited we are! All the classes received important information in class like calendars, and handbooks, and supply lists that should get home to you for you to look over with your child. We also played a game to learn about things that we have in common with each other, and share things that make us unique. We also covered our expectations in the class and students got to give us input on expectations that they want to hold each other accountable for in class. It was a great experience to hear from all students and we are happy to get started on a positive note this year! Students already have two assignments that they should be taking care of before the end of next week:
Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestra will start their after-school sectional rehearsals NEXT WEEK. Symphony members meet every Monday after school from 3-4:30, and Philharmonic members meet every Tuesday after school from 3-4:30. If you cannot arrange a ride or carpool for your child, there is a late bus that takes students home leaving at 5pm from Kealing. Thank you as always for supporting your young musicians and we hope your first few days of school have been as great as ours! Jeni Berecek Below is attached the Binder Check assignment and the handbook with the form that should be turned in with signatures.

As the school year is just around the corner, we again want
to say welcome to the orchestra, for our new comers, and welcome back, for our orchestra veterans! Mr. Jarrott and I have so many exciting plans for this upcoming year and can’t wait for you to be a part of it. EVERYONE in orchestra will need the following items:
Each orchestra class uses a specific method book that we ask families to purchase. Please make sure the book that you buy is for the student’s specific instrument. These books can be found at any of your local music stores (Strait Music, Westbank String Shop, Blackerby Vilolins, Violins Etc), or online at retailers like Amazon.com.
Note: The books may either say “Essential Elements for Strings” OR “Essential Elements for Strings 2000” on the cover. Either is fine. But please DO NOT PURCHASE a book that has a cover like this: https://www.amazon.com/Essential-Elements-Strings-Violin-Book/dp/0793533597/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1470849203&sr=1-4&keywords=essential+elements+for+strings This is an old edition we do not use. Correct books look like this: https://www.amazon.com/Essential-Elements-Strings-Book-Violin/dp/0634038176/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1470849447&sr=1-1&keywords=essential+elements+for+strings for the specific instrument. For Concert, Philharmonic, and Symphony Orchestra students (not Beginners), we ask that every student has a personal tuner that they bring each day. There are many kinds that can be found at music stores, but you must keep in mind that the tuner should affix to the instrument to pick up the sound. Tuning apps on phones or devices are great for personal practice, but do not work in a group setting. We suggest tuners like the Snark Clip On Chromatic Tuner, or a Korg Chromatic Tuner with the addition of a Korg clip on contact microphone. For instrument needs please see the following link to answer questions about how when and where to get instruments for students to use at school and home: http://kealingorchestras.weebly.com/hornet-orchestra.html We appreciate you taking care of these needs as soon as you can. A check for materials will occur during the second week of school. If there is financial need in acquiring these things, please let us know, we are very happy to help where we can. |
