- We will be taking yearbook pictures on Wednesday (A day orchestras) and Thursday (Beginners/Rockestra) of this week in class- we have been reminding students about it but in case they have not kept you in the loop, please remind them to wear their formal uniform on that day. - New concert date for February! Sorry for this change but due to an unforeseen circumstance we unfortunately need to change the date of our February Pre-UIL concert. It will now be one day earlier- Tuesday, Feb. 19, 6 pm. - Gattitown reminders- we will have a mandatory rehearsal for all groups (except beginners) on Monday Feb 18th- there should be a pink sheet that your student brought home a few weeks ago to sign and return along with $10 for lunch and games at Gattitown. If you need more info let me know and I can post a copy of the handout. Also have them bring a folding stand if you have one and $2-3 cash if you are able so that we can give a gift to the clinicians that will be working with the kids on that day. - Trip payments- if your child is going on the spring trip and you have not yet paid in full, just a reminder that there are monthly payments due of $25 (Concert/Hornet) or $75 (Phil/Symph) due the first week of each month. Full payment is due by April 5. I'll post the flyers for the trips here too if I can figure out how. Thanks! Let me know as always if there are questions or concerns. Thanks for all that you do to support your young musicians! :) The Directors Hi orchestra and guitar parents! Here's the information that is going home in class this week so that you have another copy. I'll post the orchestra information first, and the guitar information below that. Please note that these are two separate events this time- the orchestra concert is Wednesday, and the guitar concert is Thursday- just wanted to have all of the information accessible in one place.
For all students: **Students MAY NOT leave campus on their own and then return before the concert (i.e. walk to East Side Pies and come back to KMS) This is not allowed by campus rules since we are liable for students at all times and will not be leaving campus. Students can only leave and come back if they are accompanied by an adult. Thanks! As always, feel free to email us if you need anything. Remember to be on time and be using your best concert etiquette during the concert and during the warmup. Your grade is dependent on your timeliness and behavior. Good afternoon parents! This message is for anyone whose student participated in the orchestra/guitar fundraiser.
All fundraising items will be delivered to school this Thursday (10/25) by the end of the school day. Everyone needs to have a plan to pick up fundraising items from the orchestra room on Thursday since some items are perishable. If your child only sold a small number of items (5-6 max) they can probably bring them home on the bus; however if it is more than that, they will likely need a ride home. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you! The Directors Congratulations on a wonderful concert on Wednesday! We enjoyed being able to present our hard work to you and the rest of the Kealing community and we hope you enjoyed it too.
Couple of announcements for you today: - If you are not yet part of the Kealing Orchestra Facebook group, you can find it here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/124212138221710/ - this is a closed group, so when you request to join the group, you'll answer a few questions with your student's name and connection to the orchestra in order to be approved in the group. This is one more way to stay informed and ask questions about the goings on at Kealing. We also live stream our concerts to the Facebook group in case you or a family member cannot make the performance. - Region parents: I apologize for not getting this information out sooner, but today your student will take home a letter from us that will detail the audition process for tomorrow. Students who are auditioning will meet us at Covington Middle School at 8 am tomorrow. Please be on the lookout for this communication from us and email with any questions or concerns. Thank you! The Directors Good afternoon parents! It was great meeting many of you at the Back to School night. I'm excited for the rest of the school year!
Just a quick note that as of now, Charms should be up and running. This is the system that we use for parent communication in the orchestra and guitar programs. I have entered the email addresses that students gave us on the first day of school, if they knew it (I did my best to decipher handwriting!) but please visit the Charms website to make sure that the information that I have is correct or change/add contact info as you wish. The instructions to access the Charms website are below: TO ACCESS STUDENT PROFILE to update email address or information: 1. Visit www.charmsoffice.com 2. Under ENTER/LOGIN tab go to Parents/Students/Members 3. Enter school code KealingMSOrch 4. Student password (unless you have entered your profile before and changed your password) is student's first name and last name. All lower case and no spaces. (Ex. Johann Bach would be johannbach) 5. To update or check email address stored, go to the Student Info tab. If you are the parent, it is likely your contact info can be found/changed by clicking on Adult's Information at the bottom. Today and tomorrow we are also launching our fall fundraiser. By the end of the day tomorrow, all orchestra/guitar students should have fundraising packets. Look for an email soon with more details as well as information about upcoming concerts and events. Have a great weekend! If you have any questions, feel free to email myself or Mr. Jarrott, or use the contact form on the About the Orchestras page on this website. Ms. Horrell Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! Today was our first time rehearsing with each orchestra and we're so excited for the wonderful music-making that the year will bring.
My name is Madeline Horrell and I am delighted to be the new assistant orchestra director at Kealing! I just moved to Austin from the Houston area, where I was teaching for four years in Sheldon ISD, but I'm originally from upstate NY. I'll be taking over the website and Facebook page, so if you have any questions about our online presence, please let me know. Just a couple of reminders: - Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestras will start sectionals after school next week on Monday and Tuesday, from 3-4:30. We will be starting out with Region etudes, which were handed out to Symphony today and will be available to Philharmonic on Monday. - The "Forms and Documents" section of this website has now been updated with the current handbook (which has a media release form on the last page to sign and return to us ASAP if you haven't already) and this year's calendar. These are the same documents that went home with your student. Please make sure that this information is understood and that dates are entered into the calendar. - Back-to-School Night will be on Tuesday, September 4th (day after Labor Day) from 6-8 pm. We'd love to meet you and have you tour the orchestra room! Thanks and let us know if you have any questions! Ms. Horrell and Mr. Jarrott Hello Kealing Orchestra and Guitar Families,
With the end of the year nearly here, we want to remind you to bring in any school owned equipment this week. This includes any instruments, guitars, method books, shoulder rests...etc. If the student brings in an instrument, but will still need something over the summer, have the student tell us and we can get them something before the last day. Symphony Orchestra Families - Please return any borrowed uniform parts and pieces. If your child has outgrown any of your purchased uniform parts, we welcome donations! We are trying to grow our uniform closet so future symphony students can all use school uniforms. Thanks for another wonderful year! The Directors Hello Orchestra Families, This is a friendly reminder that the Final Orchestra Concert and Awards Ceremony is next Wednesday May 9th at 6pm in the Kealing Theater. See the attached schedule for details. Warmup begins for students at 5pm. Please help your children to stay until the end of the concert for the awards portion of the night. We have noticed that many students and parents leave before the last couple orchestras perform. It is actually very disheartening for those students, who stay to support the first few orchestra performances, to have a much smaller orchestra with barely any student support at the end of the show. Also, all students will be recognized during our awards ceremony and a few students will be awarded for individual recognition, so all students should plan on attending. Thanks for your help on that issue! Thank you!
