**INTINERARY UPDATE FOR SATURDAY DUE TO WEATHER:**
Due to 100% chance of rain/thunderstorms all day on Saturday, we have made arrangements to forgo our visit to Six Flags on Saturday, and instead have booked a visit to a local indoor bowling/gaming center few a few hours after our check-out from the hotel on Saturday. At the gaming center, students will have a lunch provided to them. This plan should negate any need for a refund or return on six flags park tickets on our end. We are sorry that we will not be able to follow the original plan, but after tracking the weather closely, it does not look like it will get any better and we must make this call today so arrangements can be made. EXPECT WE WILL ARRIVE BACK TO KEALING AROUND 5PM-ISH ON SATURDAY. We will send out info when a more exact time is known. Be on the lookout for updates on that. Friday’s itinerary is not effected, and will run as planned.

Hello Hornet Orchestra Families,
We are so sorry on the late request, but we are hoping you can help us get Hornet Orchestra members to 2 sectionals in the next 2 weeks to help us prepare for the trip performance and our final concert. We are asking for the students to attend a sectional on Tuesday April 24th and Tuesday May 1st from 3-4pm in the Theater. I know it is short notice for the one next week, so please try to make plans where you are able. A note was sent home today with the students as a reminder as well. Again sorry for the short notice, we are a bit swamped with recruitment, 2 UIL's this week, and an overnight trip tomorrow! Thank you for your help and support, The Directors Jeni Berecek and David Jarrott P.S. Be on the lookout for information regarding the trip details to come out next week. Hello Symphony Orchestra Families, Attached is a sheet that gives you all specific timing and travel information for our upcoming Full Orchestra UIL day next Wednesday April 18th. Please make sure your child has all appropriate instruments, uniform, and music for that day. We are also promptimg them to check in with their teachers on what they might miss that day in their classes. Feel free to attend the performance if you are able. Seeing and hearing your child as part of a full orchestra is sure to be something that will make you proud, they are doing a wonderful job! Thanks for your help and support! The Directors
Hello Kealing Orchestra Families, A few weeks ago, information was given to the students about AISD Solo and Ensemble contest coming up on Aril 28th at McCallum High School. This is open to any AISD student who has a prepared solo piece with a piano accompanist, or a small ensemble that is already established and arranged for to play for a judge for the chance to earn a rating (like UIL) along with a medal for their playing. This is an optional event and is meant for students who have prepared a solo or ensemble piece in advance and contacted a piano player to work with them. If you know that is your child, help them remember that their forms for this event are DUE NOW. Also send in the specified amount of money - $7 for a solo and $5 per person in an ensemble. Attached is the information sheet and solo sheet that needs to come in ASAP if they plan on attending. Thank you for your help
Hello Orchestra Friends and Family!
This Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday saw our Concert, Philharmonic, and Symphony Orchestra play at UIL at the AISD PAC. The amazing news is that ALL 3 Orchestras earned ALL SUPERIOR ratings from ALL 6 judges in both concert and sight reading portions of UIL. That is something to celebrate! Also just look how adorable they are! Thanks for all your support, give your orchestra students a high five! Hello Concert, Philharmonic, and Symphony Orchestra Families, Attached is the travel information for each orchestra on their contest days. Please help your child remember their uniform, music, and instrument for their concert day. Concert orchestra is Wednesday, Philharmonic is Thursday, and Symphony is Friday. Please look at the attachment to help students remember to show up to school dressed in their uniform with a packed lunch. On the topic of uniforms, please help the students show up in a FORMAL looking uniform. Uniform expectations are laid out in the handbook. There were some uniform issues last Wednesday at the concert and I want to point out a few things that hopefully you can help monitor: -LEGGINGS ARE NOT PANTS. For ladies, the look of black leggings with the polo hanging over them is not a formal look. The polo needs to be tucked into pants, and per the school dress code, leggings are not considered pants. -BLACK LONG SOCKS for boys are expected. I like to remind students that no one in our classes is Michael Jackson, so we need black socks that cover ankles. - FORMAL LOOKING BLACK SHOES are an expectation for all. Black tennis shoes, black shoes with white or colorful stripes, or dark athletic shoes are not a formal look. I understand that growing children grow out of shoes often, but please help you child emulate the formal look we go for in the orchestra. Thank you for helping us look as good as we sound and make the correct impression on our judges and audience! Please feel free to come to the performances where able to support our efforts. All performances are taking place at the AISD Performing Arts Center (1500 Barbara Jordan Blvd). Thank you! The Directors Jeni Berecek and David Jarrott
Hello Kealing Orchestra Families, This is a friendly reminder of our Pre UIL Concert coming up this Wednesday 2/21 at 6pm in the Kealing Theater. Students need to be in place ready to warm up by 5pm. Please see the attached sheet for specific information. We will have no pizza that day, so be sure to send your child with an extra snack or two to hold them over. We are hoping to run everything a lot like last concert, but this one usually goes a bit faster with no rockestra performances. The purpose of this show is to share the progress of the beginner students, and to give the other orchestras a chance to share their UIL Contest programs with you before the contest next week. Hopefully we perform well and get all the jitters out before contest. Thank you for your help and support!
Hello Concert, Philharmonic, and Symphony Orchestra Families,
With 3 different events coming up in the next few weeks, we wanted to send a friendly reminder about what is happening when and where. Specific reminder emails will precede each event, but we wanted to keep you up to date with everything going on. Gatti Town Day – Mon 2/19 Students will be rehearsing from 8-11AM at Kealing with guest clinicians. Students should bring instrument, music, and a FOLDING STAND. Cello and bass players should bring their home instrument. Students are then invited to an optional lunch at Gattitown, cost is $10. Permission slips and money for this are due prior the event. Pre UIL Concert – Wed 2/21 This is a concert to prepare for UIL, and give friends and family a chance to hear the UIL program before the contest. We will have guest clinicians there to be mock judges and make final suggestions. The concert is at 6PM in the Kealing Theater. Warmup for all students begin at 5PM. This will run like a normal concert. Students should bring music, instrument, and uniform that day. UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest – 2/28-3/2 We just got the schedule of performance days/times for each group. Please see the table below for each orchestra’s performance times. We are still awaiting the information about travel times, but students will be traveling during the school day via charter bus to and back from the event. All performances are taking place at the AISD Performing Arts Center. Family and friends are welcome to attend where possible. Students should bring instrument, music, and uniform to this event. Also a packed lunch would be best that day as we will miss lunch at school. More info to come on specifics. Concert Orchestra Wed 2/28 Warmup 10AM Concert 10:30AM Sight Reading 11AM Philharmonic Orchestra Thurs 3/1 Warmup 10AM Concert 10:30AM Sight Reading 11AM Symphony Orchestra Fri 3/2 Warmup 10:30AM Concert 11AM Sight Reading 11:30AM Thank you for all your help in this our contest season. We look forward to sharing our performances with you! The Directors Jeni Berecek and David Jarrott Hello Concert, Philharmonic, and Symphony Orchestra Families! This is a reminder about the “Gattitown Day” event coming up on Monday the 19th (President’s day). The Kealing Orchestras and Bands have a tradition of using the morning of that day, which is a day off for the students, to bring in the orchestras and bands that are competing at UIL to have rehearsals in the morning lead by guest clinicians and their normal directors. Then as a way to celebrate our hard work, we take a trip to Gattitown (south) and have some pizza and fun. Please see the attached sheet for details, and have your child return it with your signature and the indication of who will be picking up the student and where by next week. This form was also sent home with students this week. You will see that there are a few choices, whether to pick up your child before going to Gattitown, to pick them up at Gattitown, or pick them up from Kealing after we have gone to Gattitown. With any of those choices, please be on time per the schedule that is laid out. If your child is joining us at Gattitown, we get a deal for the students to get all the food they want and a game card for only $10. Send them that day with the $10 and we will collect all the funds together. Thank you so much for your help with this, The Directors
Hello Hornet and Concert Orchestra Families,
We are requesting student participation in a few after school sectionals coming up in February to help us prepare for the concert on February 21st and our UIL Contest at the beginning of March. With testing schedules, "snow days", and late starts, this time will be invaluable to really drive our efforts forward in being prepared for our upcoming performances. This will also be the only two opportunities the Hornet Orchestra will have to come together as one ensemble before they perform together. Please put these dates in your family calendar and plan on having your child attend. If students need transportation after the sectional, the late buses are a great option and we are happy to help anyone new to the late bus procedure. Thank you for your help!
